Death According To Holden

Boy, when you're dead, they really fix you up. I hope to hell when I do die somebody has sense enough to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetery. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 20

Perhaps a bleak thought of death to some, but I'm with Holden on this one... I don't need any cemetery plot. Who's going to come and see me?

I'd prefer to be remembered for a location of some kind --- keep a picture of that place on the wall and think of me when you see it or if you ever do get to go there.

I think you summed it up well Mr. Caulfield...

I've never read this before...but it sums up my thoughts exactly! Here I have been trying to explain to family why I don't want a funeral or to be stuck in the ground when I die....but they don't get it. Now I have a perfect reference....;)
