Ernest On Writing

"Then there is the other secret. There isn't any symbolism. The sea is the sea. The old man is the old man. The boy is a boy and the fish is a fish. The shark are all sharks no better and no worse. All the symbolism that people say is shit. What goes beyond is what you see beyond when you know." --Ernest Hemingway, 1952

Tuesday

The Station Fire, Rhode Island. Ten Years Ago Tomorrow

100 died.  200 injured, some with disfiguring burns.  Rhode Island cries.  Our hearts still go out to the families of the victims, a decade later.

Sunday

Catcher

Holden: "You know that song, 'If a body catch a body comin' through the rye'?..."
Phoebe: "It's 'If a body meet a body coming through the rye'!... It's a poem. By Robert Burns."
~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 22

"Alright, Mr. DeMille. I'm ready for my close up."

I hate old movies.  But this one was A+!  Billy Wilder's 1950, "Sunset Boulevard"

Tuesday

No Sugar Tonight Ukulele

From Indiana, perfect rendition!

Friday

The Cure Lovesong Ukulele

Great example of a song that is impeccably played, and includes the "lyrics" and the backing music, simultaneously.  Not easy to do.  Well done here.

Saturday

Dr Bekken Blues Ukulele

Lovely on a baritone ukulele with Southcoast High Tension strings in dGBE.
