First Day of Vacation

Rode bikes with Cathy to Fabyan Windmill, ate lunch at Egg Harbor, had a rip off maragarita at La Magdalena's in Elgin (my review of the place will be on tripadvisor soon--horrible!), and then crashed at home. Unwinding has begun.

Friday

A Binful of Babies!

I love A.S.S in Geneva. Flasks, beakers, spyglasses, neon lights, corks, tarantulas, live and dead frogs, rubber gaskets, chattering teeth and bug jewelry. These are just some of the images stuck in my mind from A.S.S.

Oh, and a binful of dead babies.

Sunday

The Chandelier

My favorite light, the nicest I have ever owned, now hangs with stunning glory in my master bedroom. It boasts chrome accents, and plenty of dangling bling. The best thing I did for it was to install an electric timer light switch. I can hit a button and it'll stay on for ten minutes when we are getting under the covers, and we can study its cool sparkles on the ceiling, and then it shuts itself off so that we can slumber.

Geneva's Third Street

Spent some time on Third Street yesterday and the shops were in good spirit, and the Kane County Courthouse was with tree glistening and it was rapture to see all the unique little shops on the street. I look forward to studying each shop, one and a time. A cool mix of old and new.

Thursday

Artistic Glass

We have some super fine friends: one is my paddling buddy and the other is his talented glass artist wife. They live north of Chicago, and took us to a superb seafood dinner at Oakbrook Mall this past summer. It was a warm night, and we had just decided to start a life in Geneva at that time. They really went out of their way to come down and greet us. In addition, as an early housewarming gift, they gave us this one-of-a-kind modern art glass dish, which now resides on our fireplace mantle in Geneva. Thanks! Mi casa e su casa. Looking forward to having you both down for the weekend this springtime.

Wednesday

The Church Steeple

I can see very far when the leaves are off the trees. One advantage to a late autumn day. In the distance, I see a church steeple. It's always there, made of stone, and immovable. I see it only now when the green veil is lifted. It is subtle, but beautiful.
Take a look around you...deeply. Can you see more now than when the days are long and the sun high? That cabin hidden in the woods along the road to your work. The yellow woodpecker high up in the treetop. Gaze as far as your eye can see. Enjoy a diffferent perspective that only autumn and winter can provide.
